On Thursday 9 March 2006 Lynne Kosky, Victorian MP, Minister for Education and Training and Minister responsible for Design officially launched the Premier's Design Awards 2006, a major initiative of the State of Design 2006.
Designed to recognise and reward design excellence and innovation across all disciplines of Victorian design, in new categories across the tertiary and professional sectors, the Premier's Design Awards 2006 include:
- The Premier's Design Award 2006 - Prize AUD 40,000
- Premier's Built Environment Design Prize - AUD 10,000
- Premier's Communications Design Prize - AUD 10,000
- Premier's Fashion and Textile Design Prize - AUD 10,000
- Premier's Product Design Prize - AUD 10,000
- The Premier's Student Design Award 2006 - Prize Apple iMac G5 valued at AUD 4,000
- Premier's Student Built Environment Design Prize - AUD 1,500
- Premier's Student Communications Design Prize - AUD 1,500
- Premier's Student Fashion and Textile Design Prize - AUD 1,500
- Premier's Student Product Design Prize - AUD 1,500
- The City of Melbourne Sustainability Design Award - Prize AUD 5,000 provided by the City of Melbourne
- The Premier's Award for Design Leadership 2006
Shortlisted and winning projects will be exhibited in the Premier's Design Awards 2006 exhibition at Melbourne Museum from 4 October until the end of December 2006.
