Walt Disney's Anne Tryba Chairs 2000 SEGD Design Awards Program

Anne Tryba*, manager of the Graphic Design Department at Walt Disney
Imagineering in Glendale, California, will chair the 2000 Design Awards
Program for the Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD).
The annual design competition honors the best in environmental graphic
design, and includes work such as wayfinding projects, exhibit graphics and
identity programs. Last year's 19 winners included a construction barricade
at Grand Central Terminal with illustrations by Maira Kalman; a
45,000-square-foot trade show exhibit for Sony Playstation by Mauk Design;
and a wayfinding and identity program for Universal Studios' Universal City
by Selbert Perkins Design.
Winners in this year's competition will be announced on May 20, 2000 at a
presentation awards banquet marking the close of SEGD's annual conference.
DEADLINE
The deadline for entries is January 14, 2000, with a late deadline of
January, 21 2000.
FEES
Fees for single entries are $75 for members/$95 for non-members per project;
multiple entries of three or more submissions are $60 for members/$80 for
non-members per project.

Anne Tryba
As Manager of the Graphic Design Department at Walt Disney Imagineering,
Anne Tryba runs the day-to-day operations of the department responsible for
Disney themed environmental graphics. She oversees a staff of 70 designers,
fabrication designers and design administrators, and is instrumental in the
selection, development and allocation of talent resources. Current projects
under her control include: Tokyo DisneySea (second park for Japan);
Disneyland Resort, including Disney's California Adventure, Anaheim; and
various new attractions in Walt Disney World, Florida, Disneyland and Tokyo
Disneyland.
Anne has spoken on how Disney environmental graphics are "imagineered" at
national conferences and regional meetings around the country. She has been
recognized in her professional field with numerous awards, and her designs
and commentary have been published in PRINT Case Book 6: The Best of
Environmental Graphics; Signs and Spaces (organized by DK Holland, Roger
Whitehouse, Stephan Geissbuhler and Deborah Sussman; written by J. Abbott
Miller); Signs of the Times magazine; and Urban Entertainment Graphics by
Wayne Hunt.
The Society for Environmental Graphic Design
SEGD is an international nonprofit organization founded in 1973 to promote
public awareness of and professional
development in the field of environmental graphic design (EGD). EGD is the
planning and design of communications for the built environment. More
specifically, practitioners of this discipline design graphic elements that
help to identify, direct, inform, interpret and visually enhance our
surroundings.
