We would like to keep this page focused on major digital consultancies and related references such as usability and HCI (Human-Computer-Interaction). All submissions welcome, except for shamelessly commercial self-promos.

Consulting and Consultancies

  1. e-consultancy

A UK-based community site for e-consultants of all types, with a big database of e-business white papers and some juicy discussion forums. [alpt]

  2. Razorfish

Former 'enfant terrible' of the new wave digital design consultancies. Razorfish managed to be both global and glamorous prior to the dotbomb of 2001 - now slimmer and more grown-up. [Originally recommended by John Frostell & David Moore, updated by alpt]

  3. Sapient

One of the new global (including Sydney) monster firms in the web/e-business development arena - acquired Studio Archetype (formerly Clement Mok Design) in August 1998. [alpt]

Experience Design, Usability and HCI

  1. AIGA Experience Design

A specialist community site for experience design professionals, eg. web, digital media, usability, etc. Not a huge amount of content, but most of it quite good and accessible. [alpt]

  2. HCI Webliography

Comprehensive, frequently-updated listing of sites covering usability and HCI issues. [alpt]

  3. SIGCHI - Special Interest Group on Computer-Human-Interaction

Gateway to a vast array of online and offline resources, including the major HCI academic and professional conference worldwide. For serious professionals only, because it's way too detailed for a casual read. [alpt]

  4. UIDesign

A webzine for interaction designers, with lots and lots of papers and discussions on all aspects of interaction design. Not for the casual browser, very useful for the exceptionally committed. [alpt]

  5. Useit.com

Site of Jakob Nielsen, tireless crusader for a usable web. While many usability/HCI professionals tend to cringe when Jakob is mentioned (because he is well-known, outspoken, and not always right), he is definitely worth a read if you are interested in usability. [alpt]
