It's a brand-driven world. Yaaaaay! Sir Hector Laing said: 'Buildings age and become dilapidated. Machines wear out. People die. But what live on are the brands.' Except the unremembered, we might say. Sir Hec knows brands: he's a UK biscuit king; and what else is a biscuit (or a copy paper or a beverage), but a brand? Because branding is about connections, emotions, attitudes and world-view, it's the graphic designer's natural field. Ironically, while branding talks money, graphic design speaks a vocabulary of the aesthetic. So—the demands of brands—how do they affect designers?
