FAQ

The fashion design industry always reflects current technology and visual culture. From vegie dyes to aniline, from wood block prints to e-stat dye-sub digital, the techos dictate what's possible and designers use it to the limit. Over 40 years, Galliano, Miyake, Marimekko et al, have nodded as much to graphic design as to modern sculpture or Egyptian art (we're in good company). As graphic design pervades today's visual style, how do its language, trends and methodologies, its digital tools and techniques, influence fashion and fabric designers? We touch the garment, from initial concept to finished product.

Ivan Gomez, Vicious Threads
Ivan, the genius behind the labels unique style, has twelve years of extensive experience in the fashion, music and entertainment and marketing sectors. His energetic character and instinctive fashion ideals are reflected as his driving force trademark, placing his creations at the forefront of prevalent fashion design. Ivan draws his inspiration from the music and entertainment industries, aspiring to create a global brand reflecting these inspirations. Vicious Threads works closely with Frontier Touring, living up to their edgy, rock image, dressing some of Australia's biggest music industry acts, including Franz Ferdinand, Snow Patrol, Dizee Rascal, Fiery Furnaces and more.

Matthew Carmody, Neo Tokyo
In 1998 Matthew started to conceptualise a small tee shirt brand using the Japanese pop culture that was heavily connected with the underground Techno scene. The name for the brand 'Neo Tokyo' was appropriated from the location of the dramatic Anime/ Manga series 'Akira'. AT the end of 1999/beginning of 2000 Matthew and his brother established an office for Neo Tokyo in the warehouse district at the back of Richmond Train Station and has been designing the brand since. He still freelances for various companies including a new, designer apparel graphics range, for the sports shoe company 'NewBalance'.
