An Exciting Initiative
AGDA is delighted to announce a principal partnership with Everything in Between (EIB), the first integrated creative workshop program for students, recent graduates and creative professionals.
"AGDA is proud to be partnering with EIB," says Simon Pemberton, AGDA National President. "Not only will it provide a wonderful opportunity for students, graduates and professionals to communicate with, and learn from, external and influential practitioners in a very real sense," says Simon, "the EIB program will, in the long term, support and contribute to already established and successful education models and programs."
AGDA General Manager, Rita Siow believes AGDA's partnership with EIB is an exciting first for AGDA's professional development program initiatives. "It will provide AGDA members with innovative and tangible opportunities, adds Rita, "thereby making an important investment in the professional development and best practice ethos of our design community "
About Everything in Between
As a creative channel for professionals & students, Everything in Between is an integrated series of workshops, talks and collaborations between national and international creative thinkers. Created by 3 Deep Design the program is run over an intensive 13 week period and is delivered to designers wanting to challenge and extend their thinking, experiences and creative output.
Everything in Between will present discussions and talks from some of the leading national and international creative thinkers in Graphic design, Architecture, Poetry, Fine Art, Photography, Film, Contemporary Jewellery, Fashion and Digital Media. Each workshop and discussion is supported by a series of integrated briefs delivered to participants over the course of the program, shaped in such a way to promote and emphasise aspects of research, experiment, process and discovery.
The 2005 program is ambitious. It will provide students, recent graduates and professionals with an exceptional opportunity to explore future directions, refine their skills and interact with the most amazing and eclectic body of creative professionals.
Brett Phillips, Principal of 3 Deep Design, believes the program will provide many benefits that may not currently available or could take years of professional practice to experience. "Our aim is to provide participants with a series of unique hands on experiences, to be able to break down the lecture/presentation paradigm and to provide a briefing program that is supported by a hands on working environment. A hybrid between education and professional practice, one that is accessible and considerate of time restraints and other professional commitments."
"In many ways it is the best of both of these worlds in that the briefs are lateral and intuitive, yet the environment in which they are practiced is, in many ways, practical and based on a great deal of our experiences and work', Phillips explains.
"The program should ask many questions of many different kinds of experiences. One example could be 'How does one interpret the spirit and energy of contemporary dance in print and how does this movement in turn influence the architecture of a performance space, how is it documented and vocalised and how do the sum of these experiences contribute to the very nature of our cultural fabric and ethos? How can designers navigate these experiences and make the most of the collaboration? Can designers contribute in more ways than that which we are educated and why should we cease to contribute in other areas of interest? These are some of the big picture questions that we would like to work through practically."
Phillips continues, "The program will be shaped largely by the participants, how they interact, how they create outcomes. And why they create tangents and diversions within the program, based on the briefs and the workshops presented, will be of great interest. We feel Australia, like many countries, is in critical need of intellectual investment and involvement from industry professionals in the critique, development and shaping of design curricula."
