Sydney Design 99
The Olympics of Design is gathering momentum! AGDA member, Simon Pemberton of Isis Design and coordinator of the Design for Business Conference, has become the coordinator for Summit 97. Another AGDA member, Annette Harcus of Harcus Design, is joining the Marketing/PR committee headed up by Desmond Freeman FDIA, of Desmond Freeman Associates. Russell Bevers, our National President, is currently assembling a Melbourne-based team to assist him in developing the graphic design program content. AGDA member, David Ansett of Storm Design, has recently agreed to join Russell's team.

All AGDA members will receive the Sydney Design 99 brochure with their next copy of AGENDA. The brochure was designed by Lewis Khan (Andrew Lewis is AGDA NSW President) and printed by SD99 print sponsors, Websdale Printing (thanks to Tom Pongrass and Peter Rooney!). AGDA State coordinators for Sydney Design 99 include Martine Zajacek & Nicky Lloyd (QLD) and Stephen Castledine (WA).

Summit 97
Summit 97 will be an exciting start to Sydney Design 99, an international conference and events program that brings Australian commerce, culture and design together before the world.

Sydney Design 99 will showcase Australia's internationally-competitive design talent to the world. It will bring to Australia's Olympic city the congresses o fthe peak bodies for graphic, industrial and interior design: the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (ICOGRADA); the International Council of Industrial Design (ICSID) and the International Federation fo Interior Architects/Interior Designers (IFI).

At Summit 97, delegates from ICOGRADA, ICSID and IFI will work with local designers to develop a world-class program for the Conference and Ken Cato will unveil his visual identity for Sydney Design 99.

At the Summit media launch on Friday, May 9, 1997, delegates and leading Australian designers will be welcomed by the NSW Premier, the Lord Mayor of Sydney and the hosting organisations, the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) and the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA). The media launch will mark the beginning of a major public relations campaign to increase awareness of Australian design talent.

Summit 97 will include a fund-raising function to which all AGDA and DIA members will be invited to show their support and commitment to this exciting project. Wait for your invitation or register your interest via the coupon in the Sydney Design 99 brochure!
