BDI 2006 Industry Valuation: Overseas income up home market down
The 2006 BDI Valuation Survey shows a drop in turnover, fees and employee numbers but an increase in export income for the UK. The survey uses a base of 4,500 commercial design firms. Over 1500 design firms, representing over a third of the sector participated in the 2005/6 survey. The release of the repot highlights that the 2005 to 2006 design year has arguably been an eventful one, particularly in political circles.

Friends of Printmaking logo
Susan Colberg, GDC - Canada
This mark was designed for a group of printmakers who were trying to raise funds through the production of a portfolio of their prints. The initials of the name of the organization (F.O.P.) are shown in a positive and mirror image configuration that relates to the printmaking process. The texture of rice paper and overall form of the mark relate to traditional printmaking methods originating in Asia.

3 week summer Graphic Design Program at London College of Communication
17 May > 6 June 2007
Eastern Michigan University's Art Department in cooperation with the Office of Academic Programs Abroad, is pleased to offer a three-week study program at London College of Communication in London, England.
The intent of the program is to provide students from EMU and other institutions an opportunity to learn more about British and European graphic design and typographic practices. This is delivered through interaction with current London College of Communication (http://www.lcc.arts.ac.uk/index.htm) faculty and students and British design professionals, studio and museum visits, studio projects, and a lecture programme in order to contextualise the contemporary cultural and social landscape.
Projects will be based around students gaining an understanding of the historical, technological and contemporary context of graphic design in Britain. Issues of contemporary design practice will be
addressed through master class projects with practitioners noted in their specialist fields, such as letterpress, and visits to venues related to the themed projects.
Eligibility: All participants must be at least 18 years of age and must enroll at Eastern Michigan University as regular or guest students. Students from other institutions and professionals may easily register by contacting EMU Academic Programs Abroad.
