Call for Entries: 2007 Hong Kong International Poster Triennial

The Hong Kong International Poster Triennial is a major event of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum to document the development of international poster design and to celebrate its achievements at regular intervals. It is structured in 3 parts: a competition, an exhibition and a symposium. The "2007 Hong Kong International Poster Triennial" is the third time the Museum has organized the Triennial in accordance with the guidelines endorsed by the International Council of Graphic Design Associations.

Over 600 exhibited works from 40 countries/regions at the Triennial 2001 and 2004 provided an overview of the new trend of poster design and the cultures of various regions. To promote cultural exchange with mainland China, selected highlights from the Triennial’s award-winning works had been showcased at the Guangzhou Museum of Art and the Shanghai Library, where they were well received by visitors in 2005 and 2006.

Part III: Poster power = Cuban Style
by Robert L. Peters, FGDC

In the July 1969 issue of Cuba Internacional, graphic designer Felix Beltran eloquently explained Cuban design ideals: "We must bear in mind that a new society is being established in Cuba and graphic art plays an important role in communicating the message to this society...If I were asked what the most important thing in Cuban graphic art is, I would reply that it is the transmission of its content to the people; for it is through Cuban graphic art that we can perceive our social objectives, our ideology, our political and economic perspectives."

Remembering Alan Fletcher

The Design Museum is saddened at the news of the death of Alan Fletcher on 21 September 2006. The exhibition Alan Fletcher: fifty years of graphic work (and play), scheduled to open on 11 November 2006, will go ahead as planned, and will celebrate the remarkable life and work of this influential figure of British graphic design.
