The 21st century is only a six year-old child. We have received it with fireworks, we have seen it live, and arriving in Peking, Madrid or Moscow, but since the human being became one, since it erect his back to see the world, we have built a black hole of hate and intolerance, a hole which is destroying the world and humanity, yours, mine, everybody's. A hole that grows even bigger every day.

2006 Sappi European Printers of the Year of the Year
Sappi has named nine printers from seven European countries as this year's winners of its prestigious Sappi European Printers of the Year awards in Stockholm, Sweden. Sappi announced the winners of the 2006 awards at a gala ceremony attended by some 350 guests including the winning printers and their paper merchants, in the magnificent Renaissance-inspired City Hall. In total, 38 printers were honoured with gold, silver and bronze awards in the competition's nine award categories.

Results and trends of the red dot award: communication design 2006
The jury has made its decision in the red dot award: communication design for 2006. This year, the jury of nine international design experts judged the quality of 3 708 entries. 210 works received a red dot award, 24 of them the red dot: best of the best for outstanding and pioneering design achievements. The award ceremony will take place on 8 December 2006 in the Essen Philharmonic Concert Hall (Germany). The award-winning work will be presented in a special exhibition from 9 December 2006 to 7 January 2007 in the Essen red dot design museum.

Howard Foundation: 2007 > 2008 fellowships in visual arts
The Howard Foundation awards a limited number of fellowships each year for independent projects in fields selected on a rotational basis. Approximately ten fellowships will be offered for the 2007-2008 fellowship year to support persons engaged in independent projects in the the visual arts, media studies and the history of art and architecture. Stipends for one year are normally USD $25 000. There are no residency requirements.

3x3 first annual children's book illustration show
The competition is open to all artists, writers, editors and publishers of children's books geared towards children under 12; please no textbooks. Since this is the first year, books published in both 2004 and 2005 will be accepted.
Judges include art directors Anne Schwartz, Random House; Anne Moore, Candlewick Press; Cecilia Young, Putnam and art director/illustrator Serge Bloch as well as illustrator/author/publisher Etienne Delessert and illustrators Pascal LeMaitre and Sergio Ruzzier.
All entries must be postmarked no later than 31 August 2006.
