2nd Biennial of Latin Letters opens in Venezuela

New forms of typographies of some Latin American countries are shown in the 2nd Biennial of Latin Letters. The event is taking place at the Carlos Cruz Diez Museum and is an exhibition of different proposals that go from the vanguardist to nationalist tendencies. Biennial judge to Venezuela, Juan Carlos Darias, explained.

Icograda endorses Taiwan International Poster Design Award 2006

The Taiwan International Poster Design Award 2006 is being organised by Icograda member, the China Productivity Center, for the purpose of enhancing Taiwan's commercial design talent and providing opportunities for interchange with international designers. The goal is to boost the visibility of Taiwan's design talents and place them in an international context. The award scheme is being jointly presented by The Graphic Design Association of the Republic of China, Taiwan Graphic Design Association, Taiwan Poster Design Association, Kaohsiung Creators Association. Each of these associations are members of Icograda.

Australia's top graphic designer honoured in the United States

Garry Emery, design director of emerystudio and one of Australia's most successful graphic designers, has been honoured for his lifetime contribution to the discipline of environmental graphic design, by the Society of Environmental Graphic Designers (SEGD) in the United States. He is the first Australian and the first non-USA based designer ever to win this prestigious award.

The designer was asked to reflect the "pungent" style of work produced by AM Studio. With this logo, the company is compared to a hot red pepper, with the text radiating from it like a flame to exaggerate this spicy feeling. The logo aims to show how the studio's work deeply influences its viewers in the same way that tasting a hot pepper would.

Cuban and American designers together in Havana exhibition
“Sharing Dreams”, a retrospective exhibition of posters made by Cuban and American designers, will open on 20 June in Havana. The show includes a total of 36 works that sums up those presented in two previous editions of “Sharing Dreams” and those of the current edition, organised by partners AIGA Cross Cultural Design (AIGA XCD), the Pablo de la Torriente Cultural Centre and Cuban PROGRAFICA Committee. The current exhibition is part of the 8th Salon of Digital Art, which will take place from 19 – 30 June.

Niklaus Troxler exhibition
Ljubljana, Slovenia

Niklaus Troxler, born in 1947 in Willisau, Switzerland, is a graphic designer, illustrator and concert organiser. Following the completion of his apprenticeship as a typographer, he studied Graphic Design Education at the Art School in Lucerne. In 1971 and 1972 he was the art director for the Hollenstein Création in Paris and in 1973 he opened his own graphic design studio in Willisau. Troxler has won numerous awards, including the Cultural Prize of Central Switzerland (1982), 22 'Swiss posters of the year', as well as multiple awards from the Switzerland Art Directors Club, New York Art Directors Club, European Art Directors Club, New York Type Directors Club and Tokyo Type Directors Club. He participated and won prizes in a number of Design and Poster Competitions. His posters have been exhibited at numerous exhibitions, including the Raeber Gallery in Lucerne (Switzerland) and the Reinhold Brown Gallery in New York (USA). His posters can be found in a number of important Poster Collections, amongst others also in the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
 
The exhibition, featuring jazz posters by Niklaus Troxler, will be an accompanying event to the 47th Jazz Festival Ljubljana.



Zollverein School offers new MBA programme in design competency

The Zollverein School consistently links management skills and design competency
throughout its MBA programme. The aim of its professional development programme is
to stimulate new styles in management and corporate strategy. On completion of their

Call for Entries: 1,000 Retail Graphics

The retail industry is one of the most competitive and thus, has some of the highest failure rates. Therefore, getting the marketing and branding right is essential for survival.
