The Business of Design: Design Industry Research 2005
A survey undertaken by the Design Council, United Kingdom

In 2005, the Design Council’s research team was tasked with the challenge of carrying out a large scale survey of the UK design industry.  The purpose of this research was to augment the understanding of the design sector, and to uncover some specific information on the profile and size of the UK design industry, the experience base and capabilities of the UK design workforce, as well as the challenges and issues the industry perceive themselves to be facing.  The research was also aiming, if possible, to place an approximate value on the design industry to the UK economy.

Emzin [XV, 3-4],
topic: FEAR
Slovenia

http://www.culturalprofiles.org.uk/slovenia/Units/4037.html

From the Table of Contents:  Interview: the legend of British design, Alan Fletcher; renowned French director, Claire Denis; this year’s laureate for best Slovene actress, Natasa Burger; and the most intriguing Slovene mathematician, Dragan Marusic.  Theory: Hawaiian anthropologist Christopher Fung explains his view on American society, Renata Salecl presents current fears, Bojan Musil relates fear to individuality, Zoran Kanduc gives criminal aspects of fear, Ksenija H. Vidmar & Zdenka Sadl master the social construction of fear and Paul Verhaeghe writes about anxiety and anthropologist Vesna V Godina presents seven anxieties, all accompanied by illustrations by the young and promising Slovene artist, Jure Engelsberger.
Essays: Various authors write about fear in different contexts - either manifestations of fear in literature, film and fine arts - or its presence in contemporary society, especially with regard to politics, economy, security and freedom. Naturally, some more theoretical texts are also here to present the nature of fear and its consequences.  Catalogue of fears: all phobias listed alphabetically.  Diary: Journalist Dragica Korade writes about her deepest fears as well as her everyday ones. Reflector compiles among others the thoughts of designer Jasna Andric, doctor and poet Alojz Ihan, theatre director Dusan Jovanovic, writer and concentration-camp-survivor Boris Pahor, and poet Ales Steger.  Emzin question: “
What is your favourite fear and why?”  Report: Emzin Graphic Design Seminar which hosted two renowned graphic designers Alan Fletcher from the UK and Leonardo Sonnoli from Italy.
