Pricing your work: How do you calculate the monetary value of your design?

In today’s competitive marketplace, designers are often asked to defend their rates for their work. We are interested in knowing more about how you approach pricing.

Out of the Table of Contents:    news: Going Overboard; Sticky Spot; Animal Magic; The Long Art of Law; Weird and Wonderful; Constructive Play; Cartography; Graphic Design; Typography; Posters; Signage; Exhibitions; Interior Architecture; Publishing; Identity.   substance and style: Puking eyeballs; Old curiosity shop; Keeping an even keel; The syncopated image; Quotation marks; Small but beautifully formed; Ahn Sang-Soo; Kutting edge; Writ loud; The theatre in the shed; Three non-stained studios.   time for text: Jam Session; Charting restricted pathways; Keeping the words back; From Photoshop to Google.

étapes:international marks a fresh chapter in the history of étapes: magazine. Founded in May 1994, the magazine is entirely dedicated to current events in graphic design worldwide. It soon earned a distinctive niche in the French press – as the first graphics magazine which, by observing global design trends, helped its readers discover and understand this transcontinental graphic culture. Over time, it has become a graphic-design benchmark for professionals and students, and also for everyone who, because of their direct or indirect links with graphic design professionals, needs an introduction to the meanings of contemporary graphic codes and how these are changing.

étapes:
caters to all those involved in visual creation and communication. Since it first appeared, it has opened up new avenues for readers by deciphering images and analyzing the latest news and innovations in the field of graphic design – thus compiling, issue by issue, a unique source of visual documentation. In this context, the publication of étapes:international gradually became an obvious step forward. the magazine’s growing audience beyond French-speaking countries increasingly expected an English-language version.

étapes:international is a quarterly and features the pick of the French monthly’s articles on a wide range of topics from typography to graphic design.

From the same publisher:

The ‘design&designer’ series

’design&designer’ is the first series of pocket monographs dedicated to the world of visual communication in France. It was launched in November 2002, and is growing at the rate of four titles every three months. The series stems from a twofold observation: design is soaring in popularity and reaching a fast-growing amateur and professional audience; and designers, though now considered to be fully-fledged artists, all too rarely have books dedicated to their work. Small in format and highly affordable, each ‘design&designer’ title looks at the work of a graphic designer or product designer, and the series has won a wide audience through its quality and diversity – an unprecedented development in French publishing.

This evolving series plays host to designers of graphics, posters, interiors and products, photographers and illustrators, and also stylists and advertising creatives from France and further afield. ‘design&designer’ brings together and unites the members of the design and visual communication community, who work in a wide variety of fields – posters, product design, interior design, photography, and many more.
