The MCAD offers ‘Mapping for Sustainability’ as part of Sustainable Design Online Certificate

As part of its 2006 Spring Semester line-up, The Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) will be offering a course entitled 'Mapping for Sustainability'. International Latino Cultural Center accepting Film Festival Poster Contest submissions until 30 November 2005

In April 2006 The International Latino Cultural Center in Chicago will present the 22nd edition of the Chicago Latino Film Festival. This goal of this festival is to break the barriers of stereotypes and provoke the audience to challenge mainstream ideals of the Latino identity by showing, through film, that Latinos are defined by more than 20 Iberoamerican countries and come from all social and racial backgrounds. Latino graphic artists are invited to participate in this event by submitting work for the Film Festival Poster Contest by 30 November 2005.

Winners and Losers of Corporate Image 2005
Naseem Javed, United States

Corporations that develop clear messages and clearly communicate their stories to both the internal organizations and the external forces are the real players. The rest are either still discovering who they are or just making stories as they go along or periodically falling flat on their faces.

Who are the real winners and losers of the corporate image in 2005? Which corporation had the best identity; which was most famous, hated or most profitable? All these responses depend on where you stand, as a loyal customer, the general public, employee or competitor.

O P I N I O N

Rescuing a floundering design: How do you attempt to make a design work that has failed on the first two attempts?

In a recent video produced by Hillman Curtis entitled: 'Paula Scher: Type is Image', Pentagram's Paula Scher describes her problem-solving process as follows:
"I operate very strongly with my instincts. If I don't get it the first crack, I get it in the second. And if I don't get it in the second, I almost never get it. It's a very intuitive kind of process for me." We would like to know what you do if you do not get it in the first or second ‘crack’.

novum, World of Graphic Design,
December edition, Munich, Germany

http://www.novumnet.de

The December edition of novum, World of Graphic Design features another fireworks display of printing technology. A fluorescent novum logotype beams out in the dark, by day it transforms into a vicious snake design. Once again the Agua Drop technique was used on the cover – three-dimensional drops, which are also fluorescent. Using a combination of offset and screen printing, the cover page was printed on Super Yupo (from Deutsche Papier); this is a synthetic material that is both tearproof and waterproof.
=C2
The poison-spitting snakes and the unique feel of the paper and the resin drops will cause a stir by day and by night, and are sure to make this special edition of novum World of Graphic Design a real collector’s piece. The print finishing was done by the paper agency König + Lerch OGH of Munich.
