When the Branding Circus Comes to Town

Pregnant mothers are being pooled to place ads on their round, shiny stomachs as part of "tummy branding." Some argue that this is how news is created. To some, this is "desperate branding" in action. Welcome to "guaranteed-to-fail branding," a process that ensures a top spot on the list of branding failures. These projects are sometimes called "reality branding." There is no limit to these weird processes.

‘Design For Women’s Concern’ Association (DWCA, Korea) Organising an Exhibition Focusing on User-Friendly Design for Women and Children
The DWCA is now accepting submissions for an exhibition entitled, Wow!! Terrific!! Spectacular!
This exhibition aims to create a opportunity to focus current design attention on user-friendly design, with a particular emphasis on women and child users.
Exhibition organisers will be accepting submissions of photographs (black and white or color) which correspond to the theme of environments or objects of everyday life that have been designed with women and children in mind. Deadline for submissions is 11 October 2005.

Creative Youth Xchange 2005 Announces Top Prize of Scholarship and Cash
Following the launch of Creative Youth Xchange 2005, contest organisers are pleased to announce the top prize of a scholarship and a cash prize of S$10,000 (approx US$6000) and their formation of new partnerships with the School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Samuel Seow Law Corporation (SSLC).
The top prize of a scholarship is offered by the School of Art, Design and Media (ADM), Nanyang Technological University (NTU). ADM will also provide creative coaching at the CYX workshop in November 2005. Samuel Seow Law Corporation’s (SSLC) will offer assistance and legal advice to the youth for the commercialization of their ideas.

The Conference promises to be something of a typographic jamboree with a
heady mixture of talks that cover life, death, sex and money, and which
bounce from Mexico to Moscow, Japan to Jerusalem. It is a diverse programme
that puts Christians next to Jews and juxtaposes politics, protest and religion.
There are a host of typo-exhibitions that include type that can be eaten,
letters that dance, and words that can be puzzled.
