Will your designs have the power to shape the world we live in?

The Rise of Asia
Good design provides an influential platform for dialogue, between the
speaker and the audience, between brands and consumers. The 19th and 20th
century had been dominated by western influences and this extends into design
as well. But in our time, we are witnessing the third global shift of power
to Asia, reclaiming the position of equals in a new multi-polar world. There
is therefore a critical need for Asian design communities to nurture a new
generation of designers capable of crafting influential designs that
communicates with the heart of the East in a world which was defined by
western thinking.

30 July ? Deadline Extension:
Women in Design: A Fact Finding Initiative

The Women in Design Initiative has extended the deadline for
Participation to 30 July 2005.

Feedback from the surveys received will be used to enable the Women in Design Initiative to more accurately focus future projects of relevance to women in design and to add value to the general member base. We believe that individual member societies will also find value in the final feedback as it might assist them in developing appropriate strategies when arranging conferences, interventions and events.

Organizational Survey (http://www.icograda.org/web/survey-org.shtml) This fact-finding sheet aims at capturing information from Icograda member associations, and should be completed by the secretariat or a person appointed by the secretariat to do so.

design&designer035 Ahn Sang-soo: The graphic designer and typographer
Ahn Sang-soo has been the leading exponent of South Korean graphic design
since founding his studio Ahn Graphics in 1985. Highly influential in his own
country, Ahn is committed to promoting graphic design from South Korea
and around the world.

design&designer036 johnson banks: Michael Johnson, the mischief-maker of British design, is an artist acknowledged not just for his work for johnson banks, the agency he founded in 1985, but also for his involvement in bodies promoting British design.

design&designer037 Dalek: The American artist Dalek (the name on his passport is James Marshall) has in just a few years become a prominent figure on the urban graphic design stage, whose ranks feature personalities such as Miss Van, Banksy and Space Invader.

design&designer038 Massin: "We've all got a Massin at home", announced the exhibition in Strasbourg dedicated to him in 1995, and the event's title certainly wasn't stretching the truth when you consider the career of this French graphic designer, who started out in the 1950s and whose influence on French publishing is still very tangible today. He is a master of many trades: typographer, graphic designer, photographer and writer.
