Israel Community of Designers Established

The Israel Community of Designers was formally established at a general assembly which took place at the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design in Ramat Gan, Israel on April 4, 2005. The organization represents the community of practicing professional designers in Israel. The organization is interdisciplinary and is structured in such a way as to permit each specialty to deal with its own specific needs and interests yet work as one when dealing with issues affecting the entire community of designers. The organization has been established on the basis of two cells – industrial designers and graphic designers (including professionals from the fields of visual communications, illustration and media). Additional cells serving other design specialties will be added with time.

Corporate Image Mythology
By Naseem Javed, Domain Wars

As e-commerce matures, it opens a great door for smart marketing based on some fundamental laws of common sense, which should address bringing out honest and clean messages to ease the pain of the customers. Smart messages with powerful names will grow in time, and don't require permanent, expensive fireworks support to attract customers.

New Master’s in Design: Product-Service-System Design

The Faculty of Design of Politecnico di Milano will start in the next academic year with a new study course at Master’s level in Design. The course will be held in English in order to facilitate the access of international students.

The name of the new course  is Product-Service-System Design, that means a transdisciplinary study course in design not limited by the traditional disciplinary boundaries of product design, communication design, service design, interior design, furniture design, etc.

The aim of the new study course is to train future designers in coordinating all the different elements of a brand (communication, products, interior, services) through which a company or institution presents itself to its market. This combination is called PSS_Product-Service-System.

The new program will start in October 2005. Scholarships for international students are available.

All the non EU students interested in this study course have to contact the Italian Consulate in their country from the 18th of April to the 18th of May.

Announcing Papercrete Summer 2005

The creators of the 2005 Papercrete Summer invite you to experience papercrete building and architectural design classes led by Joyce Plath from Ecolodging, a design and planning firm in Arcata, CA. Joyce will share over twenty-five years of green design and development experience as well as her enthusiasm for building with papercrete.

Papercrete is an innovative material utilizing up to 80% recycled paper in combination with clay, sand, and cement. It handles wet-dry cycles easily, resists mold, can be nearly fire proof, is an excellent insulator, and adds mass to a building as well. It is a great material for the Pacific Northwest as well as drier climates.

Beginning July 3, 2005, a papercrete building and design course will be offered in the Trinity Mountains of Northern California. This six-week course will offer hands-on papercrete building experience led by a skilled natural builder, integrated with a design studio offering an introduction to residential architecture and site planning.

Students may sign up for as little as one week, or even one weekend, but are encouraged to stay through the entire program to get maximum benefit, a reduction in fees and various internships. Engineering credit is available through Humboldt State University.

Interested architects, builders, and designers who will be in the Redding or Arcata, CA area this summer are invited to stop by for a visit.
