Aircraft
By Ivana Ivankovic, Croatia Airlines, HDD, Croatia
Via the new visual identity for our aircraft, Croatia Airlines stays true to its existing visual identity and maintains a uniform style, but the new design renders the planes even more noticeable and recognizable. The planes are designed as a homogeneous group, and the new design is based on clear and simple shapes. The essential meaning which is based on elements of the traditional heraldry has also been maintained.

Super Advertising Slogans & Super Costs
By Naseem Javed
Advertising slogans or taglines pushing sales are great for getting a customer’s attention as they often tangle and hold them hostage for a second or two. Some taglines catch the user’s attention, but most are simply confusing, causing them to “escape the trap” and run away.

baseline 46
United Kingdom
type@baselinemagazine.com
Baseline continues to explore the relationship between typographic and photographic composition, finding, in Kerry Purcell’s history of Camera, an inbuilt story of the high quality print production also close to our hearts. Sigi Odermatt (AGI) gives a personal insight to Max Huber (AGI), an influential designer who stands next to Muller-Brockmann (AGI), Vivarelli and Lohse in the early Swiss avant-garde. Meanwhile Caroline Archer reveals both the past triumphs and current plight of the Imprimerie Nationale, Paris, home to the historic types at the heart of our typographic heritage. Steven Heller continues to remind of the unsung typographic heroes, in this case Eric Nitsche, whose designs for science books stand as benchmark examples for the genre. And David Jury chronicles a time when enterprising printers were the experimental innovators, long before surf culture. Those inspired to learn more about typographers like Huber can find much more in Baseline’s typographic lexicon. In this issue Baseline provides an update, adding to the comprehensive nature of its unique resource.
