Icograda Moves its Headquarters to Montreal, Canada

On 16 January 2005, the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) and the International Council of Societies of Industrial Designers (ICSID) took an historic step by signing a ten-year contract with Montreal International. This agreement will allow the two international organisations to move their headquarters to Montreal, Canada, and open new opportunities for their development and mutual collaboration.

Creative Waves application deadline extended to 20 February

Due to an an overwhelming amount of requests from students, teachers and institutions, the application deadline for Creative Waves has been extended to 20 February. The international online student design project now has applicants from 23 different countries, and seats continue to fill each day. Participation in this exciting project is free to students around the world, and is also open to teachers, academics and creative professionals. Creative Waves will be held for 6 weeks beginning in March 2005. Apply online at http://www.omnium.edu.au/promo/creativewaves

Experience 'Visual Dynamic' at Hong Kong International Poster Triennial 2004 Exhibition

After hosting a successful poster competition, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum will be showcasing over 400 outstanding international poster works in the Hong Kong International Poster Triennial 2004 exhibition.* The exhibition illustrates how poster art has successfully evolved as a communication medium, despite the onslaught of computer and Internet in the 21st century. Visitors can view the short-listed poster works as well as posters by acclaimed international jury members until 27 June 2005.

The UK commercial design industry drops in value by GBP 1.4 billion - Part 1 of 2

Now in its fourth year, the 2003/4 British Design Industry Valuation Survey undertaken by the British Design Initiative in association this year with UK Trade and Investment and in the three previous years with the Design Council used a base of 4000 commercial design agencies; 1600 responded in full.

The 2003/4 results show the sector in trouble as it struggles to charge appropriate fee levels commensurate with value and overhead investment.

Icograda and The Omnium Project (Australia) invite students, educators, and design practitioners to participate in a unique and interactive series of free online projects for students in graphic design, photomedia and visual communication. Creative Waves 03>04>05 will take place over a 6-week period during March and April 2005 and will link art and design students, and their teachers, from educational institutions around the globe. Using Omnium's unique online 'studio' interface, participants will interact in small creative teams to challenge and respond to an unfolding design brief. Design practitioners may participate in a mentoring, critiquing or collaborative role.
