What started as a relatively small project is now, through support and interest of the colleagues worldwide, becoming an international project and event. Web site http://www.untrashed.com is not just an opportunity for all designers to see the exhibition, but will, from 18th May (closing date of the exhibition) become a space where all interested designers can upload their rejected works and discuss the issues of criteria and other problems facing the profession. Many designers from all around the world have already expressed their wish to exhibit their rejected works, which prompted the organization committee to rethink the event on an international level. With support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, organisers are proud to announce the 1st UN-TRASHED International Festival that will open in Zagreb on World Graphics Day 2003. All interested designers and associations are invited to enter their works and participate in the project. Organisers hope that this event will help complete the global picture of graphic design profession.

Do you feel your business is doing better, the same or worse than three months ago?
We want to keep track of the changes in the practice and your forecasts for the times to come. We are repeating this question every few months in trying to establish the flow of trends and other issues regarding graphic design.
Compared to the results we got from you three months ago, the situation is seems to be getting even worse. Only 7 percent consider their situation to have improved, compared to previous 17 percent. The percentage of designers who answered that their situation is more or less the same didn’t change significantly (12 compared to previous 13 percent), while the percantage of designers who are facing worse times than before has grown from 70 to 81 percent. Not a very optimistic result, but let us all hope for the better.
Do you feel your business is doing better, the same or worse than three months ago?
Better 7%
Same 12%
Worse 81%

The Board of Directors of the American Center for Design announces the
closing of the organization after 75 years of existence
It is with regret that the Board of Directors of the American Center for Design announces the closing of the organization. Unfortunately it has been unable to withstand these extremely difficult economic times. Unlike just a year ago when the ACD was experiencing new growth and vitality, in the past six months its membership has dropped drastically, corporate sponsorship has all but disappeared, and attendance at its annual Living Surfaces conference could not be developed despite a stellar roster of presenters. The American Center for Design is a primary source of information about design and its role in our culture and our economy. ACD is currently the only professional organization that addresses the multifaceted and continually changing nature of design. ACD's members represent all design disciplines, and their work demonstrates that design theory and innovation are inseparable from design practice. ACD is committed to connecting its members to each other, and to the research, ideas, and technologies that are continually shaping, reshaping, and influencing design and design practice.
