The Danish licenseplates
Naur Klint, Lars Klint and Lise Vejse Klint
MDD, Denmark
The danish licenseplate was originally designed by prof. Naur Klint in 1976. The method of production required a specially designed alphabet, and he created the characteristic soft and rounded grotesques with open numerals in order to meet the additionally demand of maximum legibillity.
Prof. Naur Klint was appointed as professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture in 1970 and functioned as such until his dead in 1978.
Lars Klint is working as an ass. prof. at the same place and has done so since 1983.
Lise Vejse Klint graduated in 1993 and has, since then, been the director of the studio klint and vejse.

Underdesign, overdesign, redesign
(on pretty pictures and bad design)
By Peter Billak
A few weeks ago, I participated in an evaluation of students' works at Jan van Eyck Akademie in Maastricht. The students were defending the way they approached the designing of a publication which they have been preparing. While explaining their work, six students out of eight mentioned that they tried 'not to overdesign' the articles. Afterwards, a stormy discussion broke out as to what 'not to overdesign' means. I must say that ever since I have been living in the Netherlands, I might have expected such a discussion.
