Out of Africa: Continental Shift
The recent Sappi World Design Convergence, incorporating the Icograda congress 'Continental Shift,' has been described by delegates as a truly world class event. It will never be forgotten, and has become etched in the memory of all that attended. Delegates gathered in Johannesburg from 34 countries around the globe to look at design from a new perspective, to exchange views, to partake in new experiences, and to make new friends and contacts.
Sappi World Design Convergence has made a permanent contribution to the cause of design and to the global design community. Events were planned as a celebration of inclusiveness - a global convergence where designers shared their ideas for the future of the design profession, in a location on the African Continent only a few kilometres from what is recognised as the 'Cradle of Mankind.' Of particular resonance was the tracing back to the roots of mankind there, in the very core of South Africa. "This event has helped put Africa on the design map," said Robert L. Peters of Canada, President of the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda).

Do you do work pro bono?
Financial satisfaction is, of course, important to all of us. Then again, there are occasions when we feel obliged to give our personal contribution to certain projects and causes close to our heart. Do you chose to do a project for free if it should be beneficial to the society?
