Icograda announces plans for the future.
Following a three day board meeting in Melbourne, a two day Icograda Regional Meeting, and a one day Icograda Design Perspectives Seminar, the new board of the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) announced details regarding near term plans for this umbrella body of the graphic design profession.

Which is the Crime?
Petulia Mattioli, AIAP, Italy
The artwork has been created for RAWA: Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan. Their statement is: "If you are a love freedom, you are against fundamentalism!" I just tried to underline their "point of view" in a moment where people keep on talking and talking on what is right and what is wrong, while a "crime" is still happening.

The ego has landed
by Ben Hargreaves
Ethics, so the joke goes, is a county to the east of London: everyone knows where it is, but you wouldn't want to go there. While moral issues may be becoming more prominent as industrial designers make their own attempt to engage with the serious economic, social and environmental problems facing the world, the interplay between ethics and commerce remains at best complex, and at worst antithetical.

Does your association offer you enough assistance?
It is not only about authorship rights and legal matters we discussed in our previous poll, but also about pro forma materials such as sample contracts, price lists, professional advice, information, networking etc. Do you feel your association is doing enough for you?
Give your opinion and vote at http://www.icograda.org

F R O M P R E V I O U S O P I N I O N
Did you encounter an idea similar or same as your own in another designer's work?
We have asked you how often you encounter similar or same ideas in the works of your fellow designers.
A mere 9 percent of you have never encountered such a thing. For the rest, over a half found similar ideas in the works of their colleagues a few times, while 38 percent of you witness this quite often. It not only proves that making an original is harder than many may think, but also that great minds do seem to think alike.
Did you encounter an idea similar or same as your own in another designer's work?
It happens fairly often 38%
I have encountered it a few times 53%
No, I have never had such an experience 9%

Santamaria book launched at Zwemmer Design
Covent Garden, London.
At a time when individuals and organisations are questioning their own existence and place in the world, this book explores issues of personal identity which are closely related
to those that help define a corporate brand. Santamaria takes you on a journey by creating a parallel between philosophical concepts of identity and client-commissioned work. It contains a compilation of corporate identity projects, packaging and retail design as well as conceptual art, sculpture and photography: a wealth of inspiration and fresh ideas for everyone interested in visual communication.
