Icograda, Icsid and Ifi :
Increasing Intimacy
Over the years, an ongoing argument has raged behind the scenes of the international design associations on the subject of unification. The argument, though at times passionate, has been more emotional than scientific and has generated more smoke than light. In response to suggestions raised at the Icograda General Assembly, and as a result of the more effective collaboration achieved between the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda), the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) and the International Federation of Interior Designers/Architects (Ifi), the Three Sisters, during the last term, the board of Icograda decided to conduct a review of their relationship in order to formulate a policy and strategy.

Following the successful ratification of Design for the World (DW) at the Sydney General Assemblies of Icograda, Icsid and Ifi in September 1999, the board of DW recently met in Barcelona to celebrate the official opening of the organisation[pi]s new office.

How to talk with clients?
by Michael Hardt, Icograda Past Vice President
John Frostell, President of the Association of Graphic Designers in Australia (AGDA): <Shortly after the commencement of Michael Hardt[pi]s presentation on the subject of talking to clients, I knew that this was to be a significant insight into this aspect of business practise for graphic designers and that I would be referring to its content in many ways throughout my occupational life. Michael Hardt goes on to assess talking as a tool and plotted various stages of the design process as experienced through contact with a client and described various åtalks[pi] for various purposes: Sales prospecting talk, Introduction talk, Briefing talk, Money talk, Design talk, Complaint talk. Each stage requires different tactics representing different expected outcomes and are described with entertaining anecdotes and examples.>

Warning! New virus more destructive than <I Love you>

(CNET) -- A new virus on the loose could make the Love Bug pale by comparison. Antivirus firms monitoring the new outbreak say only a handful of instances so far have been reported to them. But they caution that the virus has the potential to spread rapidly and cause even more damage than its recent predecessor. "Everything on the computer is destroyed," said Vincent Weafer, director of Symantec's
antivirus research center.
