The Jury of the 11th Rencontres Internationales des arts graphiques (Chaumont, France) has given an Icograda Excellence Award to Luba Lukova for her poster Sudan.
Luba Lukova is an artist and designer living in New York. Originally from Bulgaria, she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia. Her posters are exhibited widely in the United States and Europe and are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Library of Congress, Washington, DC; and Bibliotheque Nationale de France among others. Her graphic art has been published in The New York Times, Time, numerous national magazines and books. Lukova's work has won many awards including most recently: Honor Laureate, Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition; Best of Show; and How magazine International Design Competition.

The new Feature on Icograda website is from Applied Arts magazine, a high-quality publication with wide distribution in North America, Australia, and England. Kelvin Browne speaks about pro bono work: "Directly translated, pro bono means for the public good. What it means in reality, however, is that designers donate their services or charge significantly reduced rates to support good causes. Pro bono creative is central to the existence of numerous not-for-profit and philanthropic organizations -- without it, many arts groups and charities wouldn't be able to raise necessary funds to keep their good work going."

RSA Design Awards
Thanks to the support of Icograda Foundation, the Royal Society of Art (RSA, United Kingdom) has given scholarships for the Student Design Awards for the 1999/2000 competition, in the interactive media section. The two winners are Grant Jamieson and Graham Howe, both from Falmouth College of Arts.

SIL International is pleased to announce the availability of three new font packages for scripts of Asia -- SIL Dai Banna, SIL Tai Dam and SIL Yi. SIL International is an organization of linguists dedicated to the study and promotion of thousands of languages around the world. The Directors of the Type Directors Club announced that internationally acclaimed type designer Gnter Gerhard Lange will receive the TDC Medal in September 2000 during the ATypI conference in Leipzig, Germany.
The TDC Medal is awarded to recognize outstanding contributions to typographic excellence. The first medal was awarded to Hermann Zapf in 1968. Over the past thirty-two years, the following professionals have been honoured: R. Hunter Middle ton, Dr. Robert Leslie, Frank Powers, Edward Rondthaler, Arnold Bank, George Trump, Paul Standard, Herb Lubalin (posthumously), Paul Rand, Aaron Burns, Bradbury Thompson, Adrian Frutiger, Jerry (Freeman) Craw, Ed Benguiat, Gene Federico, Lou Dorfsman and Matthew Carter. Rolling Stone magazine was recognized in 1997. The latest recipient of the Type Directors Club Medal is Colin Brignall (the TDC Medal presentation is to be held on June 2, 2000, in Stationers' Hall in London, England).

Cutting Edge International Video Competiton is one of the events in the Oullim 2000 Congress, and it's purpose is to show the various creative moving image works.
