Water for Human Kind is a project launched by Arnaud Corbin and Thierry Sarfis, respectively President and Board Member of Syndicat des Graphistes Francais (SNG, and endorsed by Icograda. The database of images of water for humanity enables graphic artists, using their originality and sensitivities, to play a part in the cause of water. Its creation has been made possible by the multitude of projects sent to French organisers from all around the world; through the discernment of the international jury; and through the partnership of those who will be making use of these images. This initiative brings together the right to water of all and the generosity of a pluralist creation. Those in charge of institutions and associations can call upon this image database to develop consciousness-raising and mobilising campaigns. There is a great deal to be done.
The database of images of water for humanity was created following a call for involvement disseminated by the press and sent to over 4000 graphic artists, associations and schools throughout the world. The international jury studied 750 projects sent from 42 countries, and shortlisted 94, 5 of which were awarded prizes, to make up the image data base presented in this catalogue, distributed in exhibition format and which can be consulted on the Internet.

SEGD 2000 Design Awards Program Winners
Washington DC, USA
C: Elisabeth Banks
T: + 1 202 638 5555
E: SEGDOffice@aol.com
SEGD (Society for Environmental Graphic Design) announces 39 winning projects in this year's annual design competition, the greatest number of annual winners ever.
Selected by a jury made up of designers, architects and an educator, the projects range from CompUSA's new Apple Computer store in San Francisco,
conceived, designed and installed in two months, to North Carolina's Concord Mills, a 1.4-million-square-foot retail and entertainment center.
The jury awarded five Honor Awards, 33 Merit and one Juror Award. Some of the following highlights demonstrate the diversity of award-winning projects this year:
City Graphics: For the Indianapolis Downtown Signage Program, Corbin Design created a wayfinding concept using the city's four quadrants. In eye-catching, bold colors, the signage allows visitors to navigate the city, and enhances the downtown's public image.
Low Budget: Pasadena Unified School District Signs by Hunt Design Associates: A modest budget resulted in a bold statement for school system. Forty low-tech signs (each built for $400) were designed to inform the public of how California's Proposition Y provided funds for local schools to upgrade their facilities.
SEGD is the professional organization for individuals and firms working in the area of environmental graphic design (EGD). EGD is the planning, design and specifying of graphic elements in the built and natural environment.
