Is there a need for a single Euro-language?
Article from Print Magazine's European Design Annual, by Quentin Newark
W: http://www.printmag.com
In January 2000, the [fi]rst notes and coins of the Euro, the single European currency, appeared. One of the most cherished dreams of all those who had wanted a united Europe became real. Next, tax rates will gradually become uniform and a single European army is under discussion. We already have one [ogonek]ag, one Parliament, one overarching set of laws: How soon can it be before we have one language, and with it, a new alphabet, or new typography?

Crossing the Border
Computers in Art and Design Education Conference
Glasgow, United Kingdom
E: cade@gsa.ac.uk
W: http://www.gsa.ac.uk/cade
The CADE Conference which takes place every two years has already become one of the world's principal forums for digital creativity in Art and Design Education.  In recognition and in celebration of the interdisciplinary and international character of digital media, the CADE2001 conference will cross the boundaries that have tended to define digital creativity as a specialist discipline only for experts.  Most practitioners and educationists in art and design now acknowledge the wide-ranging impact of digital media, even though they may not yet recognise the character of its potential nor how to engage with it.
Potential contributors should submit a written description of their proposal, or an abstract of their paper, at a maximum word length of 500 words,  together with any relevant visual documentation, by 31st October 2000.
