Corporate communications on the up
The wait was tense, but now it's over: the 130 winners from 2,349 entries worldwide to the eighth [greater equal]German Prize for Communications Design[less equal] competition staged by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen have now been chosen.
Some comments: [greater equal]... a customer-friendly design of communications material means more intensive contact with customers. (...) Communication by companies is increasingly backing new business strategies which combine high quality communications design with the use of new technologies, particularly from the multimedia sector. Even annual reports are no longer just dry lists of figures, but boost the company's image.[less equal]
The [greater equal]Grand Prix[less equal] goes to the agency Scholz & Volkmer from Wiesbaden for their design of the web site [greater equal]www.cyber-pirates.com[less equal] on behalf of Overlook Textil GmbH from Heusenstamm.
This year's [greater equal]Junior Prize for Communications Design[less equal] goes to Robert Sch"fer from Berlin, a freshly graduated graphic designer. The prize is aimed at the designers of tomorrow who wish to assess their skills in an international comparison of achievements.

Graphic designers from all countries are invited to submit colorful graphics and illustrations for the book, "Designers Guide to World Color Combinations" to be published by Northlight Books, USA. There is no charge for accepted work and no fees paid for usage. All contributors will be credited and your contact info will be included in the book which will be distributed internationally. The author seeks graphic work with interesting, beautiful or unusual use of 3 to 10 colors. Largely photographic work is discouraged.

On September 28, the winners of the 32th International Print Award "Berliner Type 2000" and of the "Corporate Design Award 2000" will be honoured in Frankfurt/Main (Germany). Both awards are organized by the German kommunikationsverband.de who intends to improve quality in these fields and take place for Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The "Berliner Type" covers annuals, image brochures, employee's journals and newspapers as well as marketing material and awards entries in the categories graphic design, concept, copy, photography, sales promotion and reproduction/print/finish.
Members of ICOGRADA wishing to subscribe are offered this "state of the art on German Design 2000" for a special price (78,- Deutschmark instead of 98,-, both prices including VAT and not including packaging and freight costs; ISBN 3-928475-40-1; Varus Verlag, Bonn).
