For the first time on the African continent a graphic design congress -- Continental Shift 2001 -- is to be held in South Africa. This will bring together designers from around the world to interact, share creativity, and exchange knowledge of design.
Representatives from Icograda were in South Africa this week to take a closer look at the country's design industry and to meet with the organizers of the congress and Design South Africa (DSA), the South African member association of Icograda.
David Grossman, the President of Icograda, said: "The design industry in this country is exciting. Add that to the fact that South Africa is a beautiful place to visit and you have the perfect location (...). For the South African design industry, this congress will reinforce the fact that they have an international voice in design."

Ilan Hagari was Born in Israel in 1942. Since 1975, he operates his own studio in Tel Aviv, specializing in various aspects of visual communication. He has been awarded over 60 various prizes in Israel and abroad.

Who are the clients?

Who are the clients? What do they sell? Who do they sell to? Where do they do it, and how do we reach the customers?
These are the basic questions that would be asked at any early briefing meeting. Although many hours could be spent answering these questions, they aren't much fun and you won't give you the sort of detailed picture you need to do a good job.

This year J·n Koniarek gallery received almost 1800 posters for the competition. The Pre-Selection Jury choose 1288 posters by 378 authors from 42 countries. In category A (professional graphic designers) is exhibited 1028 posters by 282 authors, in category B (students of fine art academies) 260 posters by 96 authors in the exhibition. Exhibited posters are almost from all countries of Europe, then, for instance, from USA, Australia, China, Zimbabwe and there is a big collection from Japan.
Awarding of the ICOGRADA Award was chosen by Vice-President of ICOGRADA graphic designer Sanja Rocco from Croatia.
Accompanying events of the triennial are the workshop for students of graphic design from Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland and Slovenia Poster Today organised by the association POSTER and the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (27 September [not equal] 30 September) and poster action Plane [not equal] [greater equal]wall of posters[less equal] on the town square in Trnava.
