Creative mission
By Lionel Dion, SDGQ (Canada)

Creative mission is a collage made of pieces of mock-ups refused by clients. This composition presents an interpretation of the hidden side of graphic design creation. It highlights the artistic side of the graphic designer, a too often concealed side of the profession.

Lionel Dion is teaching graphic design and computer graphics since 11 years in Quebec (Canada). He runs his own studio and his passion is art in visual communication.

Conflicting opinions on title protection and industry regulation
Few issues in graphic design have caused as much controversy and debate as have industry regulation, title protection and professional certification. The debate becomes more pertinent and emotional as the profession matures and the industry achieves greater recognition and exposure. This article explores opposing opinions about industry control and reviews some examples of regulatory mechanisms adopted by professional design bodies.

In Memoriam
The polish poster designer and painter Jan Mlodozeniec died in Warsaw on December 12, 2000, at the age of 71. He designed more than 400 posters for the circus, the cinema and the theater and was one of the main representatives of the polish poster school, together with Lenica, Swierzy, Starowieyski and Cieslewicz. His colorful, and often humorous poster work brought him many polish and international awards, among them the gold medal at the Warsaw Poster Biennale in 1980. Although concentrating more on painting in the last years, he remained an active poster designer until recently.

An obituary, and review of the book on Mlodozeniec that was published a few months before his death, can be found on Rene Wanner's Poster Page http://www.posterpage.ch
