Instead, for a variety of reasons, design is being viewed, studied and developed as a group process. The CoDesigning 2000 conference aims to report the current concerns, issues and perspectives driving the research and practice of design as a group process. If you are engaged in exploring design as a collective, collaborative, or even community process then your work is of interest to CoDesigning 2000.

Web: http://www.eg.org/eg2000/3355

As we enter a new Millennium, we are becoming increasingly aware of the global nature of our profession, our industry and our very existence. Advances in telecommunications and computer technology such as the World Wide Web combine to blur and render obsolete at least some of the traditional boundaries of the one world in which we live. Computer graphics and related technologies have key roles to play as we try to understand and harness the opportunities of this new chapter of human history. It is against this background that the theme chosen for Eurographics 2000 is 'Global Challenges of the Information Society: A Web of Opportunity'. Within this theme, there are three sub-themes: Visualization, Modelling and Collaboration. All present challenges and opportunities for researchers and practitioners in our field.

Subject: "Smart Graphics" AAAI 2000 Spring
Venue: Symposium, Stanford, CA, USA In Cooperation with Eurographics
    Email: http://www.cs.york.ac.uk/~patrick/SG2000
Smart Graphics is the interdisciplinary approach to the design, generation, presentation and interaction with 2D and 3D graphical interfaces in a manner that is sensitive to technological, computational and cognitive constraints. As an enterprise it relies on the synthesis of insights from graphic design, cognitive science, human-computer interaction, graphics and artificial intelligence, and the symposium aims to broker a multidisciplinary dialogue between these communities.
Smart Graphics aims to move beyond the current requirement that designers anticipate every data, task and technological scenario, and instead allow the dynamic generation and presentation of content in such a manner that: (1) engages the user and is aesthetically satisfying; (2) takes account of cognitive insights as to the use of external representations, for example, minimizing potential for imprecision and ambiguity; (3) is sensitive to the real-time demands of the task in the context of available computational resources; and (4) adapts the form of the output according to constraints placed on the presentation by the nature of the target media and available interaction devices.

The theme of this competition is hope: our source of life, our source of creativity, the light that shines at the end of the tunnel. The goal is for you, in your design work, to stress that hope, though it might sound plebeian, is a concept destined for great importance in the years ahead. Its destiny is set by the fact that hope gives us vision, a sense of time, desires and strength.
