Let's plant trees in the icograda forest in Turkey for the victims of the Marmara Earthquake
On 17th August 1999, the Marmara Region in Turkey was struck by a great earthquake. More than 15 000 people died, thousands were lost under the wreckage, houses have been destroyed; more than 200 000 survivors are homeless, children are without schools, people are jobless.
On 12th November 1999, a new earthquake in the same region has killed many people.
GMK, the Turkish Society of Graphic Designers and CEKUL, Foundation for the Protection and Promotion of the Environmental and Cultural Heritage, in collaboration with Icograda World Graphics Day '99 are initiating an "Icograda Forest" project for the benefit of Marmara Earthquake victims. Designers of the world are requested to plant a tree in the Icograda Forest which is going to be established in the earthquake area in Turkey. The contributors will simply pay $5 USD for each tree to be planted by CEKUL on their behalf. The income of the campaigne will be contributed to a housing project initiated by CEKUL in the Marmara earthquake region.
We thank you to spread this information all around the world and thank you for your collaboration. For further practical details, see the attached document

Chew On It: New Genre Hybrid Language
Edited by Jon Jicha and Deborah Littlejohn
Designed by Deborah Littlejohn
Internet: http://www.emigre.com/CBCH.html
"Chew On It: New Genre Hybrid Language" is the result of documentation, writing, and re-presentation of elements within an exhibition bearing the same title at Western Carolina University in February 1999. The exhibition featured digital audio and video works by artists/designers Marion Delhees, Elliott Peter Earls, P. Scott Makela, Laurie Haycock-Makela, and Piotr Szhalski. These artists were invited because of their inherent interest in developing new connections between language, content, and culture. The publication extends this examination of language and the connections between traditional ranges of media information, and our associations with these new technological forms. Essay by Jon Jicha and Deborah Littlejohn. Interview with Piotr Szhalski. 32 pages, 8.25 x 10.75 inches, over 100 illustrations, 36 in color, softcover, saddlestitched. $15.00
