They can be composed by either a single artist or a group. The aim of the festival is to honour world-wide production in this field over the last five years. The festival is open to graphic artists, studios and advertising agencies as well as all other institutions involved in  promoting subjects of public interest. Graphic artists from all over the world are invited to participate.

Jury
The international jury will be mainly made-up principally of graphic artists. A list of the names of the jury members will be available at the beginning of March 2000.

Rules of the competition
The competition will be conducted in accordance with the regulations and guidelines of ICOGRADA.
Artists may enter as many posters as they wish as long as they have been produced after January 1st, 1995. They have to be printed -- any kind of printing process is acceptable but all entries have to be printed on paper. Entrants of all pre-selected posters undertake to provide a duplicate of their work for exhibition purposes. Work can be entered either individually or as a series. The organisers reserve the right to refuse entries they consider morally, politically or religiously offensive as well as work that is considered in contravention of the rules.

The organisers reserve the right to use all information provided by the artist, as well as the right to publish or otherwise reproduce all posters entered in the competition, to ensure the promotion of the festival and of any books or catalogues published on that occasion and as part of the festival.

Entries will not be returned.  They will be donated to the Chaumont poster collection and kept in "les silos, maison du livre et de l'affiche".

Prizes and certificates
A national jury made up of graphic artists with a French member of the international jury as chairman will determine the pre-selection. Certificates will be awarded for all pre-selected posters.
An international jury will award prizes and certificates to a graphic artist for the best poster or series of posters entered in the competition.
First prize: 50,000 FF
Second prize: 30,000 FF
Third prize: 20,000 FF

The jury will also award a special diploma if it is considered appropriate. A special ICOGRADA "Excellence Award" will also be attributed.
The artist receiving the first prize will be invited to have a personal exhibition of his/her work during the 12th "Rencontres Internationales des Arts Graphiques" de Chaumont in year 2001.

Program

Sato protesting against nuclear energy, political posters from Berlin. Gunter Rambow, last year winner, will show his last creations. The preselection of the international competition and the students competition will be naturally exhibited. Every year, Vital -- The Tel Aviv Centre for Design Studies organises the FestiVital, during which leading international designers conduct workshops with Vital students, present lectures to the general public and exhibit their works. The FestiVital has become a central event on the Israeli design calendar and is an opportunity for the entire design community, including students and professionals, to come together and discuss current developments.

Each participant presents a lecture to the general public, and conducts a week-long workshop with one of our classes. We make sure that everyone has a good time, is wined and dined, and has an opportunity to see the country. We take care of the airline tickets and the hotel room. The invitation is for ten days.

Amongst past participants in FestiVitals are: Michael Amzalag,  Philippe Apeloig, Ron Arad, Mathias Augustyniak, Pierre Bernard, Ashley Booth, Neville Brody, David Carson, Seymour Chwast, David Crow, Pierre diSciullio, Hendrik Dorgathen, Genevieve Gauckler, Chris Hales, Orosz Istvan, Phillip Joe, Sadik Karamustafa, Siobhan Keaney, Alex Manu, Javier Mariscal, Paula Scher, Erik Spiekermann, Deborah Sussman, Toffe, Teal Triggs, Arnout Visser, Henning Wagenbreth and some 20 other leading designers and illustrators.

While the lectures and exhibitions draw many participants from all over the country, the project is aimed particularly towards students and young designers. Design in Israel is in a developing stage, and there is little opportunity for students to come into contact with current design. The FestiVital is also an important opportunity to broaden contacts with colleagues in the area. In the past, the FestiVital has drawn Palestinian, Jordanian and Turkish participants.

Oullim is a pure Korean word meaning the great harmony. As we approach the end of the 20th century, a century of counterpoint, we are also stepping up to the dawn of a new millennium. We intend for our gathering to be an opportunity to retrace the last 100 years of design history, to review where we are, and to discuss the future. Hence we have decided on Oullim as our key concept. It refers to harmony in the upcoming age between nature, mankind, and machines, as well as to harmony between north and south, east and west, and the past, present and future.
