This biennial global competition covers all design disciplines and is open to any creative individuals or groups under 40 years old from around the world. There is no fee for participation. In addition to cash prizes (eg. grand prix is 2 million yen), all winners will be awarded a trip to Japan to join an international, multi-disciplinary workshop.
Theme: The Power of Fragility
Prizes
Grand Prix (1 award) - 2 million yen (approx. US$15,000 as at 19-Jan-02)
Gold Prize (three awards) - 500,000 yen each
Silver Prize (five awards) - 200,000 yen each
Honorable Mention (approx. twenty awards) - A memento for each recipient
Free trip to Japan
The grand prix, gold, and silver award winners will be invited to a workshop held in International Design Center NAGOYA. (In case of a group winner, only one representative will be invited.)
Free to participate in this competition
There is no fee required with the application.
Qualifications to enter
Any individual or group, under the age of 40, can apply. No restrictions are placed on the design area or specialty; all areas of design are applicable for entry. Only new works that have not yet been made public can be submitted.
Schedule
- Starting date for accepting application for the first judging: Friday, March 1, 2002
- Deadline for submitting application for the first judging: Thursday, April 18, 2002
- The first judging: End of May, 2002
- Notification of the first judging results: Beginning of June, 2002
- Deadline for submitting work for the second judging: Friday, September 6, 2002
- The second judging: Mid September, 2002
- Notification of the second judging results: End of September, 2002
- Opening date of the workshop in Japan: Mid October, 2002
- Awards Ceremony in Japan: Early November, 2002
- Exhibition in Japan: Early November, 2002
