The AGDA ACT Annual Mini Conference, Designers' Play School, is on again. We present to you an intriguing and valuable range of sessions covering paper, technology and intellectual property. Real nuts and bolts stuff to help you through your day to day work flow. Of course, you need time to get through these meaty subjects and this year we are at a new destination, Lambert Vineyards in Wamboin. A stunning location with great food, and close to Canberra to boot. Yes, there will be wine tasting on the day as well!
Meet & greet : 9:00am-9:30am
Session 1 : Paper : 9:30am-11:00am
Chris Gersbach, Moirs Paper & Samantha Pearce, Australian Paper
Green paper: The environmental impact of paper use in the design industry
While Australian Paper's Optix Veto Lime paper is sure to make you stand out from the crowd this presentation is more than pretty shades of green. Chris and Sam will ensure you are armed with the real facts about the environmental impact of paper. Think it's as simple as throwing your unwanted paper into that big blue bin in the corner of your office? Think again. Paper creation has lifted it's game and recycling is barely the tip of the iceberg. Paper and the environment, a science worth discovering.
Session 2 : Technology : 11:30am-1:00pm
Damien Lewis, Paragon Printers Australasia
Working with OSX: A pain free experience
Some of us are early adopters of new technology, and, well, some of us aren't. Using Apple's OSX can appear daunting. Software upgrades, hardware upgrades, font management. Aaargh! As Paragon's Pre-press and R&D Manager Damien sees the best and worst of OSX every day. Some bits he loves, some bits he loathes. Come along and find out what you need to know and what you can forget.
Lunch : 1:00pm-2:30pm
Session 3 : Intellectual property : 2:30pm-4:00pm
Trevor Choy, Choy Lawyers
What graphic designers should know about intellectual property
This is it folks! Intellectual property law is constantly evolving and Trevor Choy is at the coal face every day. Trevor has a long association with AGDA and he recently presented this talk to AGDA members in Victoria and by all accounts nobody left disappointed. I cannot think of a reason to miss this event.
