This boxesandarrows interview of Clement Mok and Terry Swack is a first-rate exploration of the issues involved in working out the relationship between 'experience design,' - a term encompassing digital and new media design - and graphic design. It includes a useful distinction between the concepts of 'a community of interest' and 'a community of practice'.

Worth reading if you have wondered about what a professional graphic design community such as ours might morph into.

Clement Mok is the current president of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), the US equivalent to AGDA. He was a creative director at Apple for five years before he founded Studio Archetype interaction design and branding agency in 1988. In 1998 he became Chief Creative Officer. Now consulting, he continues with Sapient as the Chairman of its Innovation Advisory Board.

Terry Swack is the AIGA Experience Design national chair and is on the AIGA board of directors. Formerly, Terry was founder and CEO of TSDesign, an Internet strategy and product design firm acquired by Razorfish in 1999.
